When it comes to preventing injuries in the workplace, everyone has a role to play. In an industrial setting, workplace injuries take on a whole new meaning from office-related injuries. When working in an industrial setting, you risk exposure to chemicals, high temperature, and dangerous equipment. What are a few things you can do to prevent such injuries?

Make your Presence Known

You do not have to announce to the room when you walk in, but if you are walking behind someone while they are working then, you should always let them know. This will keep them from turning around suddenly and bumping into you which can cause spills, dropped equipment, and more issues. Anyone who has worked in a kitchen in the past can tell you the best way to do this is to simply say “Behind” or “Behind you” when they walk by and, if you want to make sure they hear you, placing your hand on their shoulder to make sure they know not to turn.

Cover Up

Dress for your environment. If you work in a setting with lots of hot pipes and equipment, then heats sleeves are a great way to prevent burns. Likewise, if you are surrounded by caustic chemicals Tyvek coveralls with a hood are a great option, but make sure they are made with TyChem, a subset of Tyvek. This is a water and chemical resistant material that will help keep you safe, for a time at least.

Be Aware

Don’t be distracted while walking through your workplace. This can easily lead to injuries if you are not paying attention to where you are going. Cell phones should stay in your pocket or locker except when you are on a work call. If you are in a hazardous area, you need to be free from distractions.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure as they say. If you are careful around your workplace, then you are far less likely to be injured. Of course, accidents happen, but with a little preventative maintenance most can be avoided. Visit us at domain URL for more details.
